Beyond all this excitement and enthusiasm, the ICC World Cup 2023 prize money draws attention. Of course, the prize money is huge. ICC has decided to treat the winners and runners well by offering huge prizes.

This article will discuss the rewards and recognition that await the teams and players who excel on the grand stage of international cricket. We have added the ICC World Cup trophy price in Indian rupees for better understanding.

ICC World Cup Teams

Before we look at the prize money offered by ICC, we will clear up your confusion by examining the teams participating in this tournament. They are:

1. India
2. Afghanistan
3. New Zealand
4. Australia
5. South Africa
6. Bangladesh
7. Netherlands
8. Pakistan
9. Sri Lanka
10. England.

Notably, two-time champions West Indies were a surprising absence from the lineup, failing to secure one of the nine qualification spots.

India got the opportunity as the host nation, while the remaining nine countries underwent a three-year qualification process involving various stages and smaller tournaments.

Seven teams secured their spots in the tournament in the ICC Super League, which spanned from July 2020 to May 2023. The remaining two positions were claimed by the Netherlands and Sri Lanka, who triumphed in the knockout qualification stage earlier this year.

Cricket ODI World Cup 2023 Prize Money

On September 22, the International Cricket Council (ICC) revealed the prize money for the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. The grand final will be hosted at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

A total prize pool of USD 10 million, approximately equal to ₹82,94,05,000, is earmarked for distribution among the competing teams. The tournament champions are poised to claim a substantial reward of USD 4 million, which roughly translates to ₹33,17,58,000. Meanwhile, the second-place finishers will walk away with USD 2 million, or around ₹16,58,81,000.

Teams reaching the semi-finals, although falling short of the ultimate victory, will not leave empty-handed, as they will each receive USD 0.8 million, roughly ₹6,63,52,400.

Interestingly, the prize money structure has remained unchanged since the 2019 World Cup, indicating continuity in rewarding cricketing excellence.

Furthermore, teams will also be rewarded for their performance during the group-stage matches. Each victory in this stage will earn a team USD 40,000, approximately ₹33,18,528. Even teams not progressing to the knockout rounds will receive USD 100,000, about ₹82,94,050, acknowledging their participation and efforts.

In a noteworthy move towards promoting gender equality in cricket, the ICC has affirmed that the Women’s Cricket World Cup prize money in 2025 will be on par with the men’s event. This commitment to equal prize money for both men’s and women’s events was initially announced during the South Africa event last year, signalling a progressive stance towards advancing women’s cricket globally.
